Bueno, como se imaginan, esto
aprendiendo el Perso bien rápido. Él lenguaje es bello y único. Hay muchas
letras y sonidos que no se hacen en lenguajes latinos, y viceversa para ellos.
Como en mi nombre, ellos no tienen para pronunciar la "üe" entonces
lo pronuncian como "Argoolles". A mí no me molesta por qué toda mi
vida han dicho mi nombre así jajaja Pero ni modo.
Bueno para comenzar, me cambiaron
el lenguaje el Domingo, me preparé para irme le lunes, y el martes fue el día
de transferencias. Tuvimos una reunión grande en una capilla en Artesia y
ibamos a intre cambiar con nuestros nuevo compañero, pero Elder Oaks dijo que
el no quiere hacerlo haci; lo teníamos que hacer como el lo iba a explicar. El
nuevo misionero iba a su nueva área con un miembro, y el compañero pasado se
quedaba con otros misioneros para no quedarse solo. Fue un poco confuso al
principio por que salieron muchas preguntas que nos confundían pero lo pudimos
hacer bien! Saque algunas cosas de mis maletas que necesitaba para ese día y
nos fuimos a clase de FARSI! Como estamos aprendiendo el lenguaje de Farsi,
tenemos 3 horas cada día para estudiar y aprender Farsi. Bueno, con el tiempo y la ayuda de mis compañeros de clases y
una maestra súper chévere, ya puedo entender mucho de lo que dicen en las
calles, leer lentamente, decir y pronunciar todo el alfabeto (32 letras), decir
una oración para comenzar una lección o clase y para bendecir la comida, y
compartir un breve testimonio! No tan mal para un Farsi-gringo. El lenguaje es
bello y cuando lo sabes bien, suena bien único!
El Martes llegue a la iglesia para reunirme con mi nuevo compañero,
Elder Ekberg, y nos fuimos a la casa. Nuestra casa está literalmente del otro
lado de la calle. Podemos ver la capilla y el templo desde nuestra apartamento.
Párese una cabaña nuestro apartamento. Entonces después que saque algunas cosas
de mis maletas, nos fuimos a mi primera clase de Farsi y fue súper chévere.
Nuestra maestra, Sister Mead, es tan linda. Es una abuelita y me hace recordar
mucho a abuela Tina. Ella sabe 5 lenguajes: Perso, Ingles, French, Spanish, y
Alemán! Más que nada es Inglés y Perso. Ella sabe mucho y su testimonio es tan
fuerte. En mi primera clase, aprendí el alfabeto Perso y como pronunciar las
letras. Hay algunas diferencias en las letras y como se pronuncian. Las letras
son por familias; muchas son similares. Lo que puede apartar una letra de la
otro puede ser un punto arriba, debajo, a un lado, si hay 3 puntos, 2, o sin
punto. Después de la clase, fuimos hacer compras de comida y organizarnos para
la semana. Fuimos a comer como distrito en Subway! En mi Distrito hay dos
compañerismos; mi compañero y yo, Elder Demond (él se va en Julio; tiene 14
meses en el programa) y Weidrich (salimos juntos del CCM). Regresamos a la casa
con nuestras compras. BTW TENEMOS CARRO WOOOOWWW. Como somos misioneros Persos,
toda la misión es nuestra área entonces necesitamos un carro; también visitamos
otras misiones alrededor de la nuestra cuando recibimos referencias. En la
noche, organizamos la casa y nos acostamos. Nuestras camas son unas de las
mejores en la mission.

El Miércoles fue el día del
Broadcast de la presidencia misional. Fue increíble, tantos discursos bien
preparados y inspirados para los misioneros. Elder Bednar, como siempre, preparó
un discurso fenomenal fue como un seminario con misioneros de Utah. Hablo mucho
de siempre tener el nombre de Cristo en nuestros labios! Una cosa que me
impactó mucho fue, como nosotros somos representantes apartados, siempre
podemos tener el Espíritu Santo con nosotros, y como los investigadores no
tienen el don del Espíritu Santo, cuando están con nosotros pueden sentir este
espíritu y cuando nos vamos, lo pueden sentir cuando leen el Libro de Mormón.
Entonces nosotros podemos limitar el Espíritu en las leccións si no somos
obedientes. Entonces nosotros podemos afectar la lección dependiendo del
espíritu que traemos! Wowowowow. Que increíble.
El Jueves fue el tercer día de la
semana que tuvimos nuestro estudio de lenguaje con Sister Mead. Los Martes,
Miércoles, y Jueves tenemos clase con ella, y el resto de la semana es en casa
y dividimos el tempo durante el día. La mayoría del tiempo es caminando en la
calle "Westwood" adonde están todas las Tiendas Persos y hablamos con
los que "Tienen Tiempo" por que muchos dicen que no tienen mucho tiempo. Una manera de
interesar a las personas son con las clases de inglés que damos; son los martes
y los sábados. Típicamente vienen 2 Persos, una de Francia, 2 de Vietnam, 1 de
Japón. De ves en cuando vienen unos diferentes, pero ese es la mayoría. .
Estoy disfrutando mucho de estar
con mi compañero. Él es muy inteligente y sabe mucho del lenguaje. El es tan
depuesto para corregirme, y lo hace con tanto amor.
El jueves tuvimos una conversación
única! Nos habian rechazado muchas personas, pero seguimos hablando con muchas
personas. Vimos a este señor mayor que parecía Perso entonces hablamos con él y
nos dijo que el sabía que éramos misioneros. Estudió en BYU-Provo por 6 años y
le gusto muchísimo. Mi compa y yo sentimos bien fuerte un sentimiento de paz y
felicidad cuando nos hablaba de la Universidad. Cuando llegue a la misión,
empece a contemplar si tenía que ir a BYU, pero no le preste mucha atención por
que quiero estar enfocado, pero yo
sentí que ese señor fue mi respuesta que si tengo que ir a BYU. Entonces
familia, sepan que BYU está en la lista para aplicar cuando llegue a casa!
El Sábado tuvimos una lección con
un chino que se llama B el está estudiando para su doctorado en UCLA. El es
bien inteligente y chistoso. Quiere aprender de nosotros por qué dice que le
gusta ver la vida de diferentes perspectivas como es estudiante de economía. Tuvo
muchas preguntas extensivas del evangelio como quien es Dios; como lo puedo
sentir; como se que el vive; que es la fe! Nuestras mentes se estaban cansando
con todas sus preguntas. Claro no pudimos responderlas todas por qué iba a
tomar mucho tiempo, pero si le ayudamos a orar y le ayudamos a entender quién
es Dios el Padre, y quién es Jesucristo. Aquí estamos enseñando a muchas
personas que no saben quién es Jesucristo y por qué él es tan importante. Es
una prueba para nosotros por qué estamos aprendiendo cómo explicar las cosas
bien simples.

Estoy viendo tantas bendiciones de
estar en este programa. Estoy conociendo muchas partes de LA. El Domingo fuimos
a Palos Verdes, que es una de las partes más ricas de todo el estado. Esta en
las Montañas de la playa. Estoy
recibiendo tantas revelacións de como voy a querer ser un padre; como puedo
aplicar las cosas que mi padre y abuelo me han enseñando! Más que nada, estoy
viendo todas las oportunidades que voy a tener por medio de este lenguaje y
como me van ayudar en mi carrera y para recibir más becas. Amo tanto este evangelio y todas las
pruebas, bendiciones, y personas que salen de el.
Con una semana tan unica, esta escritura y hymno me tocaron
el corazón!
5 Confía en Jehová con todo tu corazón, y no te apoyes en tu
propia prudencia.
6 Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él enderezará tus
veredas.

“Hi! My name is Elder Argüelles and I am a representative of
Jesus Christ”.
Well,
as you can imagine, I am learning Farsi very quickly. The language is beautiful and unique. There are many letters and sounds that
you do not make in the Spanish language, and vice versa for them. Like in my name, they don’t have a way
to pronounce the "üe” so they pronounce it “Argoolles”. It doesn’t bother
me because people have been saying it that way my whole life lol. But it doest matter.
Well to begin with, the changed my
language on Sunday, I got ready to leave on Monday, and Tuesday was transfer
day. We had a meeting in a large
chapel in Artesia and we were going to exchange with our new companion, but
Elder Oaks said that he didn’t want to do it that way; we were going to do it
the way he explained. The new
missionary would go to their new area with a member, and his old companion
would stay with other missionaries so he would not be alone. It was a little confusing at first
because there were many questions that were confusing us more but in the end we
were able to do it well. I got a
couple of things out of my suitcase that I would need for the day and I was off
to my first Farsi class. Because
we are learning the language, we have 3 hours to study and learn Farsi each
day. Well, with time, the help of
my classmates, and an amazing teacher, I can understand a lot of what they say
in the streets, read slowly, say and pronounce the entire alphabet (32 letters),
say a prayer to begin a lesson or class, and how to bless the food, I can also
share a brief testimony. Not bad
for a Farsi-Gringo. The language
is beautiful when you know it well, and it sounds so unique.
On Tuesday I arrived to the church
to meet my new companion, Elder Ekberg, we went home afterwards. Our home is literally across the street
from the church. We can see the
church and the temple from our apartment. Our apartment looks like a
cabin. So, after I grabbed some
things we left to my first official Farsi class and it was awesome. Our teacher, Sister M, is super
cute. She is a grandma and she
reminds me so much of grandma Tina.
She knows 5 languages: English, Farsi, French, Spanish, and German! Mostly English and Farsi. She knows a lot and her testimony is
really strong. At my first class I
learned the letters and how to pronounce them. There are some differences in
the letters and how you pronounce them.
The letters are grouped in families; many are similar. What sets a letter apart from another
could be: a dot above, below, to one side, if there are three dots or 2 or not
dot at all. After class we went
grocery shopping, and got organized for the week. We went to eat as a district at Subway! My district consists
of two companionships my companion and I, Elder Demond (he will be leaving in
July; he has been in the program for 14 months) and Elder Weidrich (we left
together from the MTC). We
returned home with our groceries.
BTW WE HAVE A CAR!!!
Because we are Farsi missionaries, the entire mission is our area so we
need a car; we also visit the other missions around ours if we receive a
referral. In the evening we
organized the house and went to bed.

Wednesday was the day of the
broadcast from the mission presidency.
It was incredible, so many talks that were well prepared and
inspirational for all missionaries.
Elder Bednar, as always prepared a phenomenal talk that was like a
seminar with missionaries from Utah.
He talked a lot about having Christ’s name on our lips at all
times. One of the things that
impacted me a lot was how we are representatives set apart, we can always have
the Holy Ghost with us and because our investigators don’t have the gift of the
Holy Ghost, when they are with us they can feel the that spirit. When we leave they can feel it when
they read the Book of Mormon. So we can limit the spirit in our lessons if we
are not obedient. So we can affect
the lesson depending on the spirit that we bring! WOW!! How incredible!!!
I get along with my companion
great! He is very intelligent and knows so much about the language. He is so willing to correct me and does
it with so much love.
Thursday was the third time that we
had language study with Sister Mead.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we have class with her, and the rest
of the week we study at home and we divide the time up throughout the day. The majority of the time we are walking
the street of “Westwood” its where most of the Persian stores are and we with the
ones that have time because many say they don’t have time. The one way we have
been able to intrigue the people is with the free English classes we offer on
Tuesdays and Saturdays. Typically the ones that come are 2 Persians, 2 from
Vietnam, One from France, and one from Japan. We had a very unique conversation. Many people had rejected
us, but we still continued to talk with many others. We spotted this older man who looked like he was Persian, so
we spoke with him and he told us that he knew that we were missionaries. He had studied at BYU- Provo for 6
years and he loved it. My
companion and I felt a very strong feeling of peace and happiness when he spoke
about the university. When I began
my mission, I started to contemplate if I should go to BYU, but I didn’t pay it
much attention because I wanted to stay focused. But I felt that this man was my answer that I do need to go
to BYU. SO… family get ready because BYU is on the list of places to apply when
I get home!
Saturday
we had a lesson with a man from China called B he is getting his doctorates at
UCLA. He is very intelligent and funny.
He wants to learn from us because he likes to see life from different
perspectives (He is an economist student). He had many extensive questions of
the gospel like who is God; how can I feel him; how do I know that he lives;
what is faith? Our minds were racing with all of his questions. Of course we
were not able to answer all of his questions because it would take a lot of
time, but we did help him pray and we helped him understand who is God the
Father and who is Jesus Christ. He we are teaching many people who don’t know
who is Jesus Christ and why he is so important. It is a trial for us because we
are learning to explain in a very simple manner.

I am seeing so many blessings in
being in this program. I am
learning many parts of LA. On Sunday we went to Palos Verdes, which is one of
the richest part of the entire state.
It is in the mountains by the beach. I am receiving so many revelations of how I want to be as a
father; how I can apply the things that my father and grandfather have taught
me! More than anything, I am seeing all the opportunities that I will have
because of this language and how it will help my in my career and to obtain
more scholarships. I love this
gospel and all the trials, blessings, and people that come from it.
With such a unique week, this scripture and hymn touched my
heart!
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy
paths.
