November 23,2015- La mission es para todos/ The mission is for everyone!!!

Elder Solano
The trio

What a CRAZY week!!!!

This work is moving forward! There are so many that are ready to progress this work and to apply the teachings of the gospel to our lives.

On Monday we were able to get our new companion Elder Solano, he is so cool!! We are brothers and we feel like we have know each other for years!  We have many things in common like our humor and style of clothing! We have a lot of fun when we should!

Elder Solano

The Lynwood trio
We had NMO #3 (New Missionary orientation) on Tuesday and we were able to speak with Elders that live close to us and they took us to church.  At the beginning of the training we started with the theme on how to be a consecrated missionary, which mean to put everything aside like being shy, the past, being prideful and many other things.  It’s a great talk and I enjoyed it very much; I will send it to you guys.  We also had great training sessions on technology it is very exciting learning how to use the internet in the way the Lord would like us to use it.  After we went to a training on how we can use the Book of Mormon in a better way to enrich our lessons.  After that I got my iPad!! YAYAYAY! It truly is a blessing because I am learning how I can use it to help people come unto Christ and have a purpose.  It is very exciting to work in these times.

Well this week was slow. We a looking for less active member and seeing if they still live in the area.

I am attending many meeting with our leader and it’s a blessing. I love serving a mission and seeing so many miracles.

In the meeting with Elder Clark, I felt the spirit so strong and the love the of Christ is with him always.  Listen to his talk during this past General Conference.  Well, while we were there, President Weidman felt so inspired by the spirit he said, “I think that 2-3 of you need to hear this: just like you, your families at home are protected! The Angles are protecting them and want to help in any way they can.”  This was ment for me!!! Wow!!! It is incredible to see how the Lord works.  As a missionary, I have the opportunity to see the Lords love in myself, my companions, the ward members, the investigators, the poor, the rich, the good, the bad in EVERYONE because we are blessed with charity, which is the pure love of Christ! In DyC 43:8-10 it says
And now, behold, I give unto you a commandment, that when ye are assembled together ye shall instruct and edify each other, that ye may know how to act and direct my church, how to act upon the points of my law and commandments, which I have given.
9 And thus ye shall become instructed in the law of my church, and be sanctified by that which ye have received, and ye shall bind yourselves to act in all holiness before me— 10 That inasmuch as ye do this, glory shall be added to the kingdom which ye have received. Inasmuch as ye do it not, it shall be taken, even that which ye have received.
The mission is not an episode in my life, but a PART of my life! I really love being here and the saying that the mission is not for everyone is not true because we are all like Christ, we are made in his image! He is a missionary so we are ALL one to.

I love you so very much and lets stay in contact,

November 16, 2015- 8 minutos 34 segundos/ 8 minutes 34 seconds

Ay no.... qué momento tan serio!

Pense de todas las posibles  respuestas que el me daria: Como hacer mas ejercicio, o leer mas, etc... pero el me dijo "Give it all to the Lord, He'll guide you to what to need to worry about the most and what you don't need to worry about".

Elder Arguelles

What an incredible week!!!

I think that this week is the most interesting one I have had.

Lets start with Tuesday.  We woke up early because we had a leader meeting (I went because like Elder Barker my companion is a District Leader).  The meeting was so special and it talked a lot about the commitment with the investigators.  They told us that the way we treat baptism in the first couple lessons with them is the way that they are going to treat it, as something important or something casual.  I have seen how important it is to invite everyone to be baptized not because they are a number but because it’s their salvation.  We have to have expectations of our investigators and we have to show them how much we love them and are available to help them. They are not going to continue the commitment if we don’t extend it.  After the meeting, we visited many less actives to see how they are and to see why they are not coming to church.  We went to eat at the home of a member but there was no male so we had to eat outside and after 20 minutes the husband came home. I WAS SO COLD!!! It is very cold and the sweaters I have are perfect.

We had a lesson with one of our investigators she had a baptism date for this Sunday she said she didn’t think she was ready because she didn’t know anything… We are still working with her and sadly she didn’t get baptized this Sunday (that’s how God wants it)

Wednesday was INCREDIBLE!!! J (she is the star of this transfer because she is our focus) she is the other one that also had a date for Sunday to be baptized. We had the interview this week for her baptism and she passed.  Once she was out of her interview, she told us she could not be baptized on Sunday because she had to go to work right after church.  The only day she could to it this week was Friday, which only left two days to prepare.  Now the stress that we had for a baptism that was going to be on Sunday, increased to the max.  But we prayed with a lot of faith and power. Oh no… it was a very serious moment!  But now I think about those moment and I laugh a lot because I imagine it is very funny to see missionaries run around everywhere on baptism week.  Also Elder Barker was able to come because J wanted him to baptize her.  It was beautiful to see him and her.

Thursday was interviews with the President!!! Every time I know I am going to see him, in a training or interview I get so excited because I feel his love that I never want to leave his presence.  He is chosen of the Lord for this work and he is so humble.  The entire mission respects him so much because he speaks with so much power and everyone knows he is chosen.  NOBODY talks when he is speaking because we are on the edge of our seats listening everything he has to say.  Well the interview, I was in there for 8 minutes and 34 seconds incredible!  When I entered the room, already I felt peace and love of my Savior that I needed so much because the week had been crazy.  We sat down and he asked me how my reading of the Book of Mormon was going I told him I was up to date and enjoying the challenge very much.  After he asked me “ what’s on your mind”… WOW, so many things went through my mind but in two seconds, everything was clear and I felt like asking him “ How do you feel peace in moments off great stress?”  I though of all the possible responses he could give me like: excercsie more, read more, etc. but he told me "Give it all to the Lord, He'll guide you to what to need to worry about the most and what you don't need to worry about".  Those simple words touched my heart so strong that I knew there was not a more perfect response for me to hear at that moment. He told me at the end that he was so thankful that I was a missionary in this mission.  A man favored by the Lord like Nephi

And then FRIDAY!!!! J’s baptism.  We started Friday as always with a meeting with our zone districts.  After we went to eat at a sister's home that gives us food every Friday.  She cooks sooo well.  I am learning so much from her and I have a great love for her.  We left in a hurry to the house so we could get to the bus that was going to arrive in 15 minutes.  We left everything organized that morning so we just had to get it and leave.  We prepared everything in an hour, and we were ready, with some stress but I was implementing what my President had told me “everything to the Lord”.  Well many good things happened like we were able to enter the building without any problem and were able to do everything in an hour, but. Just like it was Friday the 13 many things that were not very good also happened ha-ha. The key to fill the font broke and I had to get in a hole to fill it.  Nobody not even J arrived until 5:15 and it was supposed to start at 5, but several families came.  We knew not many families were going to be able to come because of the short notice.  Well in the end, the baptism was incredible.  The stake president, President Larson who is a big part of J’s conversion, came and gave a talk on baptism super incredible (with translation by Elder Arguelles) and we ended with I know my savior lives! It was a night fill with miracles! After we went to a Family Home Evening that the O family hosted and 5 families came.  It was more like a party, but the spirit was beautiful.

Well the rest of the week was more relaxed with 2 more investigators and many miracles. On day we felt like riding down a dark alley. We found R, a less active that has no phone or home so it was difficult to find him.  We spoke and he told us that he was getting better and wanted to see us again!

The Scripture of the week (It was shared by President Weidman in a training):

And there began to be men inspired from heaven and sent forth, standing among the people in all the land (Los Angeles), preaching and testifying boldly of the sins and iniquities of the people, and testifying unto them concerning the redemption which the Lord would make for his people, or in other words, the resurrection of Christ; and they did testify boldly of his death and sufferings.
3Nephi 6:20

He shared this with us and I truly felt so protected because I am in the Lord’s work and he loves me! I am chosen for these times to help his lost children come unto him.

Well last night one of our leaders called us to left us know that there would be a change to our companionship.  The news is… we are going to have a third companion.  My third trio!!! WOWWW. On Sunday we went to a baptism of one of the investigators of Elder Mason and there we meet Elder Solano, he is going to be our third companion.

I have training tomorrow so they can get an iPad.  I am so excited to see how I can use technology in a good way and obtain healthy habits that I will have for the rest of my life!

I love you so much and we will be in contact!!!
With lots of love,
Elder Arguelles

November 9, 2015- Misericordias Tiernas/ Tender Mercies

What an incredible week!!!

A week filled with miracles and tender mercies. To start, congratulations on the new branch! I understand the need because here very few speak English.

Well like always our P-day was cut in half because of all the things we need to do.

On Tuesday I felt a great love for our investigators.  We had two lessons one with a member and another with a new investigator.  The miracles of God are manifesting themselves.  One of our new investigators is so open to learn and apply these teachings; she is an example! Then there is J!!!! She is going to be baptized this upcoming Sunday (Nov 15).  I feel a great love for her and the Lord’s love for her.  J is going through several problems with her family yet she feels the Savior’s love for her when she reads the scriptures.  I pray so nothing will get in her way in progressing towards baptism. PLEASE PRAY FOR HER THAT EVERYTHING WILL GO WELL!!!

On Wednesday it was the day to go to the Temple! The Los Angeles temple is so beautiful.  It is a light in this city full of darkness.  The rooms are so beautiful and spiritual.  The spirit was so strong and motivating to help everyone come to this sacred house.  We left and started to work with a burning fire fueled by the spirit.

Los Angeles Temple

Our group at the temple

Selfie at the temple

We had training on Friday as a zone, it was very well prepared.  We spoke on 3 different themes: the importance of the Book of Mormon in lessons, the importance of member’s presence in each lesson, and “The Angels”.  The last theme was the strongest of all.  We talked about the angels that surround us when we are in the service of the Lord; also as members in this church.  In Doctrine and Covenants 84:88 it talks about this perfectly.

And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.
We are in the latter days where everything has been restored to its fullness; we are always protected.  WE ARE NEVER ALONE!! The people we find and bring towards the gospel can change generation. Look at the example of you mother and uncle.  You guys have been an example to many, specifically to Andrew, Melissa and me to change many lives and to bring them to the church of God. Because of your persistence to continue being strong in the church, and changing the lives of dad, and the lives of Grandpa and Grandma in order for them to be sealed in the temple for all eternity.  These times are a signal of the second coming of Christ; and it is very special me being a missionary is a signal to.  I am never going to get tired of saying that this is the church of God and even though I miss you guys so much, I wouldn’t want to be in any other place doing another work like I am being here in Los Angeles helping my brothers come to Jesus Christ.

One miracle is this sister called E. This is the message I sent to my mission President:
The hymn "Count your Many Blessings" really applied this week! I love this tender mercies challenge because they really push us to dig deep through out the day to find the miracles the Lord He has given us. One amazing Tender Mercy was with one of our Investigators named E. She has been having troubles receive her answer of what church is true. She was in her other Christian church and she was listening to her pastor give a Bible lesson. As she was listening to the sermon, she heard something about her church only praising the Bible and no one, or nothing, else. She couldn't believe that she heard that and at that moment she felt that what he had been telling her is true. She received her answer that what we are saying is truly of God and that we are His messengers. We are setting a baptismal date this week and can't wait to hear how that will turn out!

Be on the look out for an invitation in the mail that I want to do as a family in this time of miracles and tender mercies!

I love you guys very much,
Elder Arguelles

EDITOR'S NOTE

This past week was my son's birthday (he is Elder Arguelles nephew).  Before my brother left I asked him if it was going to make him sad for us to talk about the events that he would not be "physically" present for.  He assured me that he wanted to stay informed.  It was very important to me for him to be included is some type of way. So I sent him a shirt with a letter, and the surprise for the rest of the family was an emotional and unforgettable memory that I will always treasure. Here are some pictures recreating the surprise.  I truly have a special brother and could not be prouder of him.
