Salooooooom!!!

Buenas mi querida Familia! Qué emoción poder reportar otra semana de emoción y diversión en el programa Perso! Para actualizarlos con mi progreso, ya puedo orar con mis propias palabras (antes lo leía de una página), puedo compartir un testimonio de 2 minutos (y les digo que es bien chevere testificar en otro lenguaje), puedo leer más o menos, puedo entender un Perso que habla bien lento (tengo la suerte que casi todos los Persos hablan lento no como un latino apurado jajaja), y puedo saludar y decir nuestro propósito como misioneros. Les digo que en verdad me siento tan privilegiado de poder servir una misión, aprender un lenguaje nuevo, sentir la presencia del Señor siempre, y ver mi testimonio cambiar de una creencia a un conocimiento. Hay un dicho común que dice mayor conocimiento, mayor condenación y ahorita veo que me tengo que portar muy bien para que me vaya bien en el futuro jijijiji

Mi cuaderno de estudio

Bueno la semana comenzó con un martes lleno de misericordias tiernas. Mi compañero es líder de distrito y tuvo una reunión. Como nosotros somos un distrito pequeño (los otros Farsi Elders y nosotros), estamos en lo que se llama un co-distrito con los misioneros Coreanos (son los de la foto de cuando fuimos a jugar baloncesto). Entonces Elder Ekberg fue con Elder Ham (quien es el Líder de Distrito sobre él y su compa ahorita ellos son los únicos misioneros Coreanos) al entrenamiento, entonces yo me quede con Elder Knudsen el otro misionero Coreano. El es Coreano, pero vivió en Japón antes de salir a la misión. Su inglés es muy bueno por qué vivió en una base naval por qué sus papá fue maestro. El también toca piano muy bien. No sé si les dije pero mi compañero también sabe tocar piano muy bien; le gusta el Jazz y le gusta añadir su toquecito, y su gusto a los himnos! Nos alistamos y fuimos a un supermercado Coreano para hacer propaganda para las clases de inglés que ellos dan. Pero como siempre, soy un imán para los pocos latinos que estaban ahí entonces no pude hablar ni con un Coreano. Al final, aprendí cómo decir "free English Classes" jajaja. Al regresar a la casa, los otros Elders estaban regresando de su reunión y cabíamos otra vez a nuestros compañerismos originales. Esa noche fuimos a visitar a una Señora que se llama Hermana U. "Ella es una viejita muy linda". Su esposo se murió hace 5 meses y ella habla de él todo el tiempo. El fue un piloto y comandante militar súper respetado y amados por todos. La casa de ella es en Beverly Hills, entonces se imaginan lo loco que estaba yo con todas las casa enormes ahí con Bugattis y Audis al frente de estas mansiones. La casa de ella es muy grande; muy moderna y espaciosa. Ella tiene su propio chef que le cocina y nos cocinó una ensalada muy rica, pollo con vegetales, y le puso una salsa TAN rica! Y de postre un flan estilo americano, pero muy rico con frutas naturales. Cuando terminamos de comer, hablamos de su esposo un poco más y como ellos bailaban y disfrutaban los tiempos juntos, después le enseñamos una parte de la restauración a una de sus asistentes que es de Holanda. Fue bien especial compartir con esa hermana, y vamos a comer con ella otra vez el Martes!!

Jugando baloncesto como co- district

El Miércoles tuvimos clase de ingles y comimos con nuestro líder Misional, J y su esposa. A él lo llaman Thor por qué él es igual de grande como Thor en estatura y músculo. Cocino comida con mucha proteína se imaginan, chorizos, pollo, y vegetales. Él es un modelo para Nike y trabaja como un entrenador físico en un gimnasio súper prestigioso. Él fue con nosotros por qué la hermana no tiene un hombre en la casa. Disfrutamos mucho y pudimos traer un espíritu bien especial.

El Jueves estuvimos en el campus de UCLA por 2 horas caminando y hablando con los estudiantes. Voy a ser sincero; eso me llevó fuero de mi "Comfort Zone" por qué nunca había hecho esto. Al principio no hablé con muchos, pero mientras me pasaba el miedo hable con más estudiantes. Me di de cuenta que ellos también necesitan la oportunidad de escuchar el evangelio igual como cualquier otra persona.

El Viernes tuvimos intercambios con los otros misioneros. Yo estaba con Elder Weidrich (nosotros salimos juntos del CCM). Que chevere! La pasamos bien juntos; hablamos del programa y como a él lo cambiaron a Perso la transferencia pasada y vi lo rápido que se aprenden el lenguaje. Conocimos a unos miembros cheveres en la calle. Una Adulta Soltera que nos paró y nos dijo que en esa misma esquina donde estábamos hablando fue donde conoció a los misioneros y los invitó a sus casa para escuchar las charlas, resultando en su bautismo años después. La otra fue cuando íbamos a UCLA Hospital para buscar mi prescripción. Ella estaba tan feliz de vernos por qué estaba pasando un día loco y con solo mirarnos se alegró. Hicimos una oración y ella siguió su camino. El Señor pone sus representantes adonde él quiere que estemos. en la noche, una hermana nos llevó a comer, pero no se imaginan donde!!!! ADENTRO EL TEMPLO!!! Como el templo está dentro de nuestra área y dan comida, fuimos a comer ahi jijijijiji. Nos dieron una chuleta bien rica con vegetales y puré de papa. Fue una de las mejores Member Meals que he tenido. La hermana es súper especial y ella tiene un historia bien bella de cómo encontró la Iglesia.

El Domingo fue súper especial. Nos alistamos para la iglesia (comienza a las 9am) y yo me termine de alistar para mí discurso que iba a dar en la sacramental. El tema era "Cómo conociendo a Jesucristo nos ayuda en la vida". Me encantó este tema por qué testificó de esto todo los días. La mayoría del discurso fueron puntos de que quiera hablar y unas referencias como escrituras y cuotas de los profetas. Cuando compartí mi testimonio, me sentí tan bien testificando de mi Salvador y Redentor. Este Domingo, hubieron 3 misioneros que compartieron sus testimonios y discursos. Al final de la sacramental, muchos de los miembros nos felicitaron y agradecieron por una de las mejores sacramentales. Muchos me felicitaron por una sonrisa tan bella y contagiosa. Me sentí muy bien por qué muchos se recordaron mi nombre y me felicitaron en cosas específicas, como que si en verdad estaban prestando atención. La segunda hora fue combinada por 5 domingo. Elder Ekberg y yo nos sentamos a un lado de Hermana King (la esposa de Larry King el Talk Show Host); ella es miembro y nos ofrecimos para ayudarlos con cualquier cosa. Ella nos invitó a comer en su casa.Cuando salimos de la capilla, nos fuimos a comer en la casa y nos hicimos una súper rica comida que cocinamos nosotros! Al terminar de comer, fuimos a contactar con un viento fuerte afuera. No había nadie y nos estábamos congelando. Seguimos caminando cuando nos vimos a un Perso. Yo lo salude y dije quiénes éramos y Elder Ekberg siguió desde ahí. Lo invito al templo y el Señor estaba bien contento cuando le invitamos. Nos preguntó si podíamos ir en ese momento, y nosotros emocionados de salir del frío, y también enseñar a este señor. Elder Ekberg habló con el Señor y su Perso es muy bueno. El Señor lo entendió bien, y yo tratando de entender pero estaba más perdido. Llamamos a Sister Mead para ver si podía venir con nosotros al Centro de Visitante y ella feliz dijo que si. Fue increíble estar ahí con M y poder testificar de alguien que él no conoce mucho.

Les voy a decir un poco de como trabaja la obra misional con los Persos. No hay muchos bautismos por la razón de que tienen que ser ciudadanos para bautizarse. La razón es que si lo mandan a Irán otra vez y él gobernó de aya se entera que son cristianos, los matan de una vez; entonces la iglesia no se quiere poner en esa posición. Hay unos estudiantes Persos que vienen a la Iglesia todos los Domingos y fueran sido bautizados pero no pueden por qué están aquí como estudiantes. Es triste pero el ejemplo de ellos es tan maravillosos. Por causa de los ejemplos de ello, otros Persos an vendido a la Iglesia y están en la misma situación. Cuando uno sabe que estas cosas son verdaderas, es muy difícil negar la veracidad del amor de Nuestro Padre y Salvador.

E visto la mano del Señor tanto en esta semana que no puedo negar que el Vive y que soy su representante. Él me ama tanto, y lo siento cada vez que lo digo. Los amo mucho y espero que tengan una semana llena de Fe y esperanza; yo sé que si buscamos al Señor constantemente cada día, el nos va a ayudar!!!

Salam!

         Well my loving family! How exciting it is to be able to report another week of an emotion and fun in the Persian program! To update you guys on my progress, I can now pray with my own words (before I had to read them for my page), I can share a two minute testimony (and let me tell you it's awesome testifying in another language), I can somewhat read, and I can understand a Persian that speaks very slowly (I have been lucky the most Persians speak slowly unlike Spanish people that are always in a hurry lol), I can greet people and explain our purpose as missionaries.  I will tell you guys that I feel very privileged to be serving a mission, learning a new language, feeling the Lord's presence always, and seeing my testimony change from a belief to knowledge. There is a common saying that says with greater knowledge, comes greater responsibility and I now see that I have to be on my best behavior so my future will be more fruitful LOL.

         Well the week started with a Tuesday filled with tender mercies. My companion is a district leader and he had a meeting. Because we are in a very small district (the other Farsi elders and ourselves), we are a considered a co-district with the Korean missionaries. So Elder Ekberg went with Elder Ham (he is the district leader in their companionship, they are the only Korean missionaries at the moment) to the meeting and I stayed with Elder Knudsen. He is Korean, but lived in Japan before leaving on his mission. He speaks great English because he lived on a naval base while his dad was a teacher. He plays the piano very well. I don't know if I told you guys but my companion is amazing at playing the piano. He likes jazz and likes to add his own touch, and flavor to the hymns! We got ready and left to a Korean supermarket in order to advertise for their free English classes. But like always I am a magnet for the small amount of Spanish people that were there so I was not able to speak to any Koreans.  By the end I was able to learn how to say "Free English classes" lol. Upon returning home the other missionaries had returned from their meeting and we were able to exchange. That night we went to visit an older lady called sister U. She is the cutest old lady. Her husband died about five months ago and she talks about him all the time. He was a pilot and military commander super respected and loved by everyone. Her house is in Beverly Hills, so you can imagine how crazy I went with all the huge houses with Bugatti's and Audis out front. Her house is huge, very modern and spacious. She has her own chef that cooks for her and he prepared a wonderful salad, chicken and vegetables, with an amazing sauce! For dessert he made flan, it was delicious and had organic fruits. When we finished eating, we spoke about her husband a little bit more and how they used to dance together and enjoy each other's company, after we taught a part of the restoration to one of her assistants that is from Holland. It was very special sharing with this sister and we're going to teach her again next Tuesday!

         On Wednesday we had our English classes and ate with our mission leader Jay and his wife. They call him Thor because he is just as big in stature and muscles. He cooked a meal with lots of protein as you can imagine, chorizo, chicken, and vegetables. He is a model for Nike and a physical trainer in a super prestigious gym.  He went with us to the sister’s house because she had no mail at home. We enjoy him very much because he brings a special spirit.

Thursday we were at the UCLA campus for two hours walking and talking with many of the students. I will be honest it was very out of my comfort zone because I have never done something like this. At the beginning I didn't speak with many students, but as I became more confident I realized that they also need the opportunity to hear the gospel like many other person.  

On Friday we had exchanges with the other missionaries. I was with Elder Weidrich we left from the MTC together. It was awesome we had a great time together we talked about the program and how he had come into the program the transfer before. I was able to see how fast you can learn this language. We met a couple of members on the street one was a young single adult she stopped us and told us that on the same street corner, she had met the missionaries and invited them to her home to listen to the lessons, it resulted in her baptism years later.  The other was when we were on our way to UCLA Hospital to pick up my prescription. She was so happy to see us she had been having a crazy day and just by looking at us she was instantly happy. We prayed with her and then she was on her way. The Lord puts his representatives where he needs them. That night a sister took us to eat... you won't believe where... the temple. The temple is in our area and they have food so we went to eat their LOL. They gave us pork chops that were really good with vegetables and mashed potatoes.  It was one of the best member meals that I have had. The sister is super special she has an incredible history of how she came to learn about the church.

Sunday was really special. We got ready for church and I finished getting ready for my talk that I was going to give in sacrament. The theme was "How knowing Christ will help us in our lives". I love this theme; I testify about it every day. The majority of the talk was bullet points of what I wanted to talk about and scripture references and quotes from the prophets.  After sacrament was over, many of the members came up to us and congratulated us and thanked us for one of the best sacraments. I was very happy and many said that I have a beautiful and contagious smile. The second hour was combined because it was fifth Sunday. Elder Ekberg and I sat next to Sister King yes Larry King's wife; she is a member and offered to help us in any way she can. She invited us to eat at her home. Once we left church and had lunch we went out tracking.  The wind was strong and it was really cold.  As we kept walking we encountered a Persian man.  I was able to greet him and tell him who we were and then Elder Ekberg continued from there. We invited him to go to the temple and the man was very excited. He asked if we could go right that minute, we were so excited to get out of the cold and teach him. Elder Ekberg spoke the most his Farsi is very good. M understood everything Elder Ekberg said very well, I tried to understand and follow along but I was very lost. We called sister Mead to see if she could come and meet us at the visitor center and she was happy to do so. It was incredible to be there with M and to testify of someone he barely knew.

I want to explain a little bit of how this specific mission works. There are not many baptisms, because the investigators have to be citizens in order to be baptized. The reason is that if they are sent back to Iran and the government finds out that they are Christians, they will kill them. So the church does not want to place them in that position. Some of our investigators are Persian students and they come to church every Sunday if it was up to them they would've been baptized a long time ago but they can't. It is sad but their example is marvelous. Because of them many other Persians have come to church and are in the same situation. When one knows that these things are true it's very difficult to deny the truthfulness of our Heavenly Father's love for us.

         I have seen the Lord’s hand so much this week that there is no way I could deny that he lives and that I am his representative.  He loves me so much and I can feel it every time I testify of it.  I love you guys so much and I Hope you have a week filled with hope and faith; I know that if you look for the Lord constantly every day he will help us.

Note from the Editor:

Chad, Alexander and I visited the LA temple visitors center this week and it was such a special experience. We were able to speak with brother and sister Councill. They go to the same ward as Elder Arguelles. It was so sweet listening to them talk about him. They told us about his talk on Sunday and how captivating his smile is. It was cool actually visiting places he talks about all the time.

Such a sweet couple!!!
